Songara Chauhan Ratansingh established a new kingdom of his own named RATANPUR NAGAR in the year 1082 (vikram).  In his 5th generation there was a famous prince named Dhanpal.  One day when Dhanpal was sleeping a snake bite him. So Dhanpal died.

  Khartar Gachhacharya Sri Jindutt Suri was in the city.  The king, his family with all his people requested the Acharya to make their only prince alive again.  Acharya charmed some mantras and the miracle happened. The prince was alive and got up.  The Acharya with all his saints were honored by the King his family & his people.  They all became the disciple of the Acharya.  They accepted Jainism and became Oswals.  They were called RATANPURA. There are 10 branches or sub-gotras of Ratanpura.  They are Kataria, Kotecha, Balahi, Sapdrah, Samirah, Narayangotra, Bhalania, Ramsena, Bohara, and the main gotra as Kataria.

Muni Gyansunderji says that Ratanpura was the main gotra and Kataria and other 26 were the sub-gotras.  They were Hada, Devra, Songra, Rudnecha, Beda, Balot, Chipa Koch, Khichi, Vihal, Melwal, Balia, Malhan, Pavecha, Katlecha, Rapadia, Dudcheni Nahta, Ishra, Rakalia, Sanchora, Vangton, semta, Pavesha  & Bohara on the name of the persons of Ratanpura family.

It is also said that Mr. Jhajharsi was a great bountiful persons. When he was the government treasurer, he gave a lot of government money to the poor public. Thus the king became very furious.  But he replied that he was not at all guilty.  He gave alms to the poor so that the king could go to the heaven and not in the hell.  The king was so pleased that he honored him with the Katar (small sword) hence his family was named Kataria.

It is said that Mr Jhajharsi Ratanpura was allowed to go to the king’s court with the KATAR, so his family was called KATARIA.

The younger brother of Jhajarsi was Pethad Shah, a famous Shah in the history of oswals. 

Kataria mehta Lakhansi build a very beautiful Dharmshala and a Baori for the general public.
