Nahata


Nahata is the sub-gotra of Bafna. In the pedigree of Jeevan and Sachhu was a famous warrior named Savatji. He was the commander in chief of the armies of king Ajaipal and his grand son Prithviraj Chauhan. He defeated Mahmood Gauri 6 times. Prithviraj Chauhan awarded him the title of Nahata and it became his Gotra. Nawab of Fatehpur awarded his son the title of ‘Raijada’, so his family is named Raijada.

Nahata Raja Bachhraj – Lucknow

           

This family was originally resident of Marwar. They were residing in Lacknow for last 200 years. Shri Bachhrajji was a very famous person of this family. He was the Treasurer of the Nawab of Lacknow. He had built a beautiful temple and Ghat. The name of this Ghat is Bachhraj-Ghat. The title of ‘Raja’ was awarded to this family by the then Nawab, because they had a very big estate in Banaras. The Patvas of Jaisalmer are of this family.

 

Nahata Agarchand     

           

He was born at Bikaner in V.1967. He had no school education. He learned business in Calcutta. He came in contact with the Acharya Shri Jinkripachandra Suri in V. 1984, and started studying of old scriptures. He then started the collection of hand written scripts on the leaves of toddy tree. He collected a grand library of very old books of all types.

           

His brother Shri Bhanwarlalji also helped him in this venture. He also collected old pictures, idols, coins etc. He travelled a lot for this collection. He also edited several books, such as ‘Visvambhara’, Maru-Bharti, Vaichariki, Rajendra Suri Smarak Granth etc. More than 5000 of his research papers were published in different magazines. He died in V. 2040.

 

Nahta Seth Lakshmichandji

           

He was born in V.1908 He purchased Sarangpur of Hisar Districts in V. 1953. He had been member of Bikaner state counsil for 6 years. Gotra Nahata is sub-gotra of Bafna. They are also named Navta.

 

Nahata Raja Bachhraj – Lucknow

           

Aasufullaha, the fourth Nawab of Avadh changed his capital from Faizabad to Lucknow. Then city Lucknow did rapid progress. Many oswal Johari and businessmen began to settle in Lucknow. Similarly Shri Bachhraj Nahata also settled in Lucknow. He got much respect from the Nawab. He was not only the state Johari, but he was honoured and rewarded the title of ‘Raja’. He became the most respectful person of the State. He built a Ghat on river Ganga, which is named ‘Bachhraj Ghat’. There is also a Jain Temple of Lord Suparshvanath on this Ghat. He had a huge estate at Lucknow.

 

Nahata shri Agarchand – Bikaner

           

He was born on Chetra Krishna 4th 1967 at Bikaner. He started to collect the old hand written Jain literature with the influence of Acharya Shri Jinkripachandra Suri from V. 1984. He travelled to many cities to collect it. He collected the most valuable Jain and other literature in a huge quantity. He also collected old antique Photos, Idols, Coins, and seals etc. In this way he created a grand museum of 3000 photos, hundreds of coins, thousands of Idols, 50 thousands hand written books and 50 thousands printed books.

He was honoured and awarded with the many titles such as ‘sidhantacharya’, ‘Jain Itahash Ratna Vidhyavaridhi’, ‘Sangh-Ratna’, ‘Sahitya Vachaspati’ etc.
